Everything you need to know about VFC's NNL fixture against Gateway FC.

VFC are in Abeokuta to face Gateway FC on Saturday , February 26, 2022, at the M.K.O. Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta by 16:00Hrs GMT + 1.

With two draws in the first two matches of the 2022 season ,VFC are Abeokuta searching for a first three points of the season.

The Champions of Lagos played out a goalless draw on Matchday One, while midfielder Saviour Issac’s impressive strike and some excellent saves by goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie ensured last weekend’s game against fellow Lagosians Ikorodu City finished 1-1 .

VFC sit 8th on the Group B1 table with 2 points, just one point and three places behind today’s opponents Gateway (5th) who have posted a win and a loss in their first two matches of the season.

Last Saturday, the Ogun Champions were humbled 1-0 by Giant Brillars in Enugu, a week after Haruna Salifu and Ogunronbi Hawwal both scored in their season opener against Campos FC of Owerri.

This will be the first ever meeting between both sides. The Lions have however visited Abeokuta before to play Nilayo FC (now Abeokuta Stormers) in the 2020/21 season.

Striker Somtochukwu Abraham is the notable absentee from today’s game, with the forward replaced by Uwem Charles who made his competitive debut for the Lions against in last Friday’s Lagos Derby.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Daniel Eyibio is out of action for a week due to a shoulder injury sustained in training on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Coach Henry Makinwa named the following players in the travelling party to Abeokuta:

Goalkeeper *Obinna Akuchie*’s Man Of The Match performance against Ikorodu United will make him a key figure to watch in this game. Midfielder *Saviour Isaac* scored VFC’s first goal of the season in the Lagos Derby, and will be gunning for more against Gateway. Striker *Lekan Abdulsalam* is yet to open his goal scoring account this season, but being on a familiar turf where he featured last season for Nilayo FC, could be the inspiration needed to register his name on the log. *Kabiru Popoola* is also familiar with the ground, with the former Nilayo player eager to roar for the Lions today. Winger *Etiti Solomon* would be hoping his dazzling runs count today, as the Lions’ hunt for a first three points.
