Vandrezzer winger Gideon Monday is in cloud nine after finally opening his goal account for the Lions, in Saturday’s 3-2 home win over Ekiti United.

The pacy winger scored the first of VFC’s goals on Saturday morning, after receiving a pass from Olalekan Abdulsalam at the edge of the box, and fired it past the goalkeeper to find the bottom left of the post in the 29th minute.

Gideon – who joined the Lions of Naija at the beginning of the current campaign – shone like a million stars two weeks ago against Giant Brillars, creating lots of scoring chances with so many eye-catching displays to emerge the man of the match, providing an assist, but narrowly missed the net.

He continued his fine form against Campos FC in Owerri in an entertaining Match Day 13 NNL tie which saw VFC snatch their first away win of the season, courtesy of a wonderful header by record goalscorer Olalekan Abdulsalam.

“I feel very happy and grateful to God for making it possible for me to have scored my first goal today

My prayers have finally been answered. Helping the team in whatever form is important, but scoring gives a different kind of feeling. I dedicate this goal first to my dad because he has been very supportive in my career and was excited when I made the move to VFC. I also dedicate it to the club President, he’s also a father to all of us at the club, he’s an inspiration “he told VFC Media.

Explaining his surge in form during the NNL second stanza,

he added:

“The way we are training now is very, very intense and everything is going on well, that’s why I’m starting to improve in my games. I am also happy the technical crew are trusting me with important roles, and hopefully I will keep impressing. My target is to create more assists and score more goals for my team.”

“We did not underrate Ekiti today because we know they wanted to cause an upset. We eventually won and the feeling was great. We’re going to our next game against Ibom Youths with full force, and hopefully, we’ll get maximum points.

In first season at Vandrezzer, the youngster admitted he is enjoying his time at the innovative and record-setting club already.

“It’s been nice playing for Vandrezzer FC,” he admitted. “Nice teammates, good coaches and crew. This is a professional team and I’m really having a great time with Vandrezzer FC.”
