Forward Olalekan Abdulsalam, scorer of the only goal in Tuesday’s Lagos FA Cup final, has described his 79th minute strike in the final against Box2Box FC, which gave us our first ever trophy, as the happiest moment in his life. 

Lekan finished the tournament as VFC’s top scorer with four goals in five matches. He was on target in the 2-0 win against Messiah FC in the quarter finals and came off the bench to score twice in our comeback victory against Smart City in the semi final before producing a moment of magic in the final to win us the cup.

The forward joined us on December 4, 2021 from Nilayo FC on a three-year contract till 2024. In just few weeks as a Lion, Lekan has helped us win our first trophy and says VFC will be a team to beat when the 2022 Nigeria National League (NNL) season begins in February 11.

In an exclusive interview with VFCTV, Lekan said the goal came at a crucial time in the game, while describing the feeling as the happiest moment of his life.

“Thank you very much.”

How do you feel scoring the winning goal for Vandrezzer Fc to claim the club’s first ever trophy?

“It was the happiest moment of my life,” Lekan told VFCTV. The goal came at a very crucial time in the game and being the only goal of the final, it is a thing of joy.”

Tell us how you were able to score that goal from such a tight angle, turning and slotting the ball into the back of the net?

“At that point in the game, the only option on my mind was to shoot the ball and I did and the ball went into the net. I was so happy.”

In few weeks of joining the team you have a trophy in your cabinet, what do you think about the team in the forthcoming NNL season starting February 11th 2022.

“We will be the team to beat because of the caliber of coaches, players, management and investment that we have in this club. Every team in the division will be looking out for Vandrezzer FC and I am happy to be part of this project.”

Who will you dedicate your goal and the trophy to?

“Well! First and foremost, I dedicate the goal to the Almighty God for taking us this far in the competition. Then to the club president, management, my team mates, the coaches and all VFC fans around the world.”

What are your targets for the new season?

“I can’t make promises for the season ahead, but I will put in my best to help the team achieve it targets which is to gain promotion to the NPFL.”
