MAKINWA EXCITED AT FIRST VFC CHALLENGE

Vandrezzer FC head coach Henry Makinwa says he is rather excited than under pressure to oversee his first competitive game for the club on Friday.

Speaking after the team's final training session before the clash against Bendel Insurance, the Uefa Pro Licenced coach insists it's a thing of joy to stand on the touchline for a team he had admired from afar, before fortunately being selected for the coaching role.

"I'm just excited to oversee my first competitive game for Vandrezzer. I'm happy with the club, the media, VFC are the trailblazers. Before I joined Vandrezzer, I did a lot of research on the team and I saw they are taking the bull by the horn. I just hope all well-meaning Nigerians will follow suit, and the whole world will see it's possible in Africa" said Makinwa.

On what to expect from the team against Bendel Insurance, the two-time Egyptian league winner is convinced he has a strong side that would be hard to beat by any team, including Insurance.

"I met a very fantastic team that was structured to play in a way that I like, which is possession football. I have been able to bring total football, in every department of the game, everybody understands what they are supposed to do. We press together, fight together, defend together and score together. Everything we have done in pre-season would be shown to the fans, and we will be happy after the game, we are sure about that" he added.

While admitting his first opponents are a strong side, Makinwa however maintained that his style has also been to focus on his team, and think less about how his opposition have prepared.

"I'm less concerned about others, I work on my team and prepare my team for everything. So we are going out tomorrow, if it's a big team or amateur team, we are going to go all out. I understand Insurance are a big team with pedigree, but I can tell you we are fully ready".

The widely travelled coach also believes his boys have adapted well to playing under floodlight, learning from Sunday's test game against Ijebu United.

VFC versus Bendel Insurance is the first of all home games the Lions of Naija will play at the Teslim Balogun Stadium this season, under floodlight.
