Newly-appointed Head Coach of Vandrezzer FC Henry Makinnwa has hailed the level of organization, facilities and professionalism at the club, describing it as ‘top-notch standard’.
The experienced coach recently sealed a one-year deal to manage the reigning Lagos State FA Cup champions in the upcoming 2022 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
In an interview with VFC media, Makinwa, who holds the prestigious UEFA Pro coaching license, expressed huge satisfaction with the way his contract talks were handled, adding he has hitherto not seen such level of professionalism by any club in the country.
“It has been a very nice experience, and the boys are cooperating very well technically and tactically to show that they are hungry” the 44-year-old former Vitoria Setubal and Al Ahly striker said, after overseeing the team’s training session on Tuesday.
“It’s very, very impressive. I’m very happy to be here. I can see the platform is of top standard. The media, the organization, coming to training, contracts and the negotiation, everything here is top, top-rated.
“I find it impressive this is happening in Nigeria or in Africa. You see things like this abroad; in Europe.
“I am very impressed since I came in. The facilities, the camp, it’s been tremendous. It’s great, very great.”
With the high standard facilities, organisation and professionalism on ground at VFC, the widely-travelled tactician dispelled speculations that Nigerian clubs cannot reach the level of their European counterparts, adding that it’s also about getting the right knowledge to do things differently.
“It’s not true because everything in life is about education,” the former Rayo Vallecano forward noted. “If you are not educated, you think this is impossible.
“Mobile phone was not in the country for like many years. But now, amala seller, a girl that is selling plantain has mobile phone.
“You will rarely believe this will work in Africa, not to talk of Nigeria. This is a top-notch standard. And I think people talking underground, they want to copy this. Most of them don’t even know how to come around and say ‘how do we go about this’? So, that’s a problem.
“Everybody is talking about Vandrezzer with jealousy. They are jealous, most of them.
“Everyone is talking about Vandrezzer’s new concept in the country.
“We should praise the owner, the people that organized this. It is incredible. I’ve live abroad for 26 years, so I’m in a right position to say this is massive.”
Makinwa who joined up with the Lions last weekend immediately after announcement of his appointment, insists that with what’s on ground, he has no excuse to under-perform.
“We know it won’t be an easy task considering the murky waters of the Nigerian league, but with what we have, we are bound to succeed. Apart from building a strong squad, our mandate is to qualify for the NPFL, and by God’s grace, we shall.”
