A brace from Attah Idongesit and Solomon Gabriel's strike lifted VFC U23's to a 3-1 win over  Excellent FC in the opening game of the 20/21 Nationwide League One, played at the University of Port Harcourt Sports Institute stadium on Monday afternoon.

VFC U23 opened scoring in the 27th min after Solomon Gabriel square pass into the box found Attah Idongesit who held off the defender to poke home from close range.

Solomon Gabriel doubled the tally in the 59th min with a cheeky finish.

Attah Idongesit rounded off the scoring with his 2nd of the day in the 66th minute. Excellent FC grabbed a consolation after Moses Omokumede slotted in a penalty.

The win takes Coach Andrew Uwe's side to top on the log of the Port Harcourt zone, after Chimooski FC could only manage a 1-0 win over Koluoma FC in the first match of Day One.

After the game, coach Uwe expressed satisfaction with his lads:

"I'm impressed with the boys, they played very well and followed  instructions. We've only been together three months and they're blending, I'm sure when we get to six months, the story will be better."

" There are lots of talents in Nigeria as we can see, and I'm glad to be working with some of them. This is what I was doing abroad so it was easy to fit in once I came to Nigeria. I thank Vandrezzer for this opportunity and I know these boys will do well", the ex-Nigerian football star added.

Matches continue on Tuesday in the zone which also has Word of Life FC, Chimooski FC, Nordic Academy FC, Ojinmah FC, Kun Khalifat FC, Koluama FC, Heartland Feeders FC, and Excellent FC.

Vandrezzer FC...won't walk that road without you!
