MATCH REPORT: DANIEL KOLAWOLE'S BRACE SINKS GO ROUND

Daniel Kolawole scored two fantastic goals as Vandrezzer FC secured an impressive victory against Go Round FC at the Soccer Temple on Saturday afternoon in Nigeria National League (NNL) Matchday 15.

First Half

The Lions of Naija started the game brightly, taking the game to the visitors, the opening half-hour played in a cagey mode, with both sides careful not to make mistakes.

The game began to open up with VFC threatening to break the deadlock. David Mark went close to scoring the opening goal with a corner kick that was heading straight for goal, but the Go Round goalkeeper scrambled to keep out.

Babatunde Sikiru whose hold up play troubled the Go Round defence throughout the game had a shot saved and Amos Okoro also went close to opening the scoring.

The game was headed for a goalless first 45 + 2 added minutes, but Daniel scored with almost the last kick of the half. Strike partner Sikiru spotted ‘The Bull’ inside the box with a fine through pass which evaded Go Round defenders, Daniel brought the ball under control and calmly beat the keeper to make it 1-0  just before the break.

Second Half

VFC started the second half pushing for another goal and were deservedly rewarded when Daniel made it two goals for himself and the Lions - a smart finish from the near post from fullback Samuel Edoho’s cross, just three minutes into the second half.

Amos Okoro had a chance to set up Sikiru when VFC broke on the counter but the winger decided to shoot from outside the box and his shot was off the target.

Daniel had the chance to make it 3-0 when he found space in the box to shoot but his effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

In a flurry of chances which VFC should have been out of sight, substitute Akere Samuel missed two golden opportunities when he was set up beautifully by Sikiru with only the goalkeeper to beat. The first time a curler to the far post that went wide off the target, while the Go Round goalkeeper pushed behind the second attempt for a corner kick.

Samuel Edoho also had the chance to extend VFC’s lead when Sikiru spotted his overlapping run, played a weighted through ball to the full-back who had the option to cut back for the onrushing Daniel and Sikiru, but he attempted to beat the keeper at his near post which was pushed behind for a corner.

With five minutes left to play, Go Round scored a late goal when Moses jumped highest to head home in the 85th minute to set up a nervy end to the match. VFC held on to see out the game as Coach Tony Bolus got his first win and a big performance from the team.

The result takes VFC to 9th on the table with 17 points, 9 points behind second-placed Go Round FC.
