An early goal from attacking midfielder Saviour Isaac in the 8th minute was enough for VFC to beat Jo Sportyne FC at the Alade Stadium on Saturday afternoon to book a place in the last 16 of the Lagos FA Cup.

Saviour had the chance to extend our lead in the second half but missed from the spot after Olalekan Abdulsalam was tripped in inside the penalty box.

Despite the missed penalty, Saviour put in a man of the match performance and was pleased to help the team progress to the next round.

"I felt bad earlier but I’m happy we won in the end," Saviour told VFC media.

"No player loves to miss a penalty but it’s inevitable, the best players in the world also have their bad days with penalties.

"It was great to score the winning goal and I hope to get many more in this tournament."

He added: "It’s great to be back in the VFC jersey after over three months. I missed playing in it and also missed my teammates. The new guys are also fun and the spirit in the team is very lively.

"I’m certain we’ll get better with every game. The aim is to lift the FA Cup trophy."

Coach Tony Bolus gave 9 out of the 12 new signings their debut in VFC colours, with full back Samuel Edoho given the captain armband.
