Our assistant coach Yemi Daniel has described his experience with the national U-17 men’s football team as "challenging" and "fun''.

Coach Yemi was appointed as one of the Assistant Coaches of the Golden Eaglets, and he summarizes his first few days with the team.

"This is my first time in the national team and indeed it is quite different from club football, a new and challenging experience. This is the level I've always prepared for, it is fun for me and I am coping perfectly.

"The players are here, we are happy and everyone wants to play for Nigeria. It is not easy but it is to come here and show your talent, we don't look where you are from, if you are good enough, then you will play.

"We want to do well and defend Nigeria, if the team performs well, it's to our advantage but if they perform poorly, the blame will be on the coaches."

Yemi however admits he misses his VFC colleagues and players which he refers to as "family", while hinting that he is definitely keeping in touch.

"I've missed my club Vandrezzer FC but I am keeping in touch with the boys and the technical crew, we speak every day, especially the players.

"I am happy to be here but I keep in touch with VFC. The club means a lot to me, they are my family.”

Yemi is not the only Lion in the national team camp, our midfield sensation, Anas Hassan is in Niamey after making the final list for the WAFU B Under 20 Championship billed for May in Niger Republic.

Yemi revealed that he met with Anas at the national camp and lent his advice to the dynamic midfielder.

"I was with Anas who is with the under 20 team in Abuja. Following the release of the squad that will represent Nigeria which he made the cut, I went to his hotel, we spoke at length and I encouraged him to go to the championship and play his game.”

Just like Anas’ Flying Eagles, Yemi’s Golden Eaglets are preparing for the U-17 WAFU tournament in Ghana from June 11 to 24 2022. The WAFU tournament will serve as qualifiers for the 2023 U-17 AFCON.
