PREVIEW: VANDREZZER FC VS DELTA FORCE

WHEN AND WHERE

VFC will take on Delta Force on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Lagos, with kick-off at 15: 00Hrs GMT.

 

TEAM NEWS

The VFC captain, Godwin Ekpo is still out following his recent hand surgery. The defender is recuperating well and will be out for two months, according to medics. Also out due to knee injuries are defender Jamiu Suleiman and midfielder Noah Razaq.

The Lions who have been tuning up in Uyo ahead of the Nigeria National League curtain closer, arrived Lagos on Wednesday and had their final training session on Saturday morning, ahead of Sunday’s game at the National Stadium Legacy Pitch. Coach Tony Bolus has released an 18-man squad list to prosecute the final game of the season against Delta Force on Sunday. 

Two goalkeepers - Paul Emenike and Daniel Emmanuel made the list; and will have the trio of Daniel Segun, Opara Abraham and Desmond Ojietefian as their protective wall in defense. Also included are full backs David Mark and Samuel Edoho; as well as midfielders Anietie Uko (stand-in captain), Savior Isaac, Saheed Obisesan, Fawaz Otun and Maxwell Okoli. 

VFC’s top goalscorer Kolawole Daniel (7 goals) is fully fit and looks good to power the team to victory with more goals this Sunday. Included in attack are  Somtochukwu Abraham and Golden Udo-Iyang, with wingers Yusuf Fantami and Kingsley Akpan.

ON THE TABLE

After 19 games, the Lions are 8th on the Group B1 table with 24 points. A win for VFC will see the Lions topple their final match opponents, Delta force to 5th place on the table.


LAST MEETING

VFC and Delta Force played out a goalless draw in their first ever meeting in club football. The Lions held to secure the draw, despite the bad pitch of the JJ Okocha Stadium, Ugwashi Ukwu, and a man down - as Anietie Uko was shown a straight red by the center referee.
