VFC March Player of the Month, Ekerete Udom insists his recent accolade couldn't have been possible without his faith in God and massive support from the Lions' squad and supporters.

According to the lanky central defender who was outstanding both at the backline and upfront, he's a strong believer in God who gave him the ability to perform:

"I give God all the glory, the giver of strength and the one that has made it possible for me to win the VFC player of the month. I'm happy about it. For me, I just kept doing what I know how to do best and tried always to be me. And the end of the day, the fans voted for me and I dedicate this award to everyone of them."

Udom who polled 78.79% of total votes cast by fans, ahead of wing back David Mark (2nd), and forwards Ivo JĂșnior (3) and Kolawole Daniel (4) to win the award, also  believes all other nominees and the team in general helped him in achieving the feat:

"The other nominated players are equally outstanding players, both on and off the pitch. I did well in March not because I am special, but because of the massive support from my teammates, the coaches, the management and everyone at VFC."

The 20 year old defender's knack for scoring has seen him top the Lions' goal scorers chat this season with two goals, and overall top scorer of the club with four, after also netting two goals last season before the league was truncated.

"It's just something I got to learn from my role models Virgil van Dyke and Sergio Ramos. They score a lot of goals, and I aspire to do even more than them. Scoring goals for me are normal things because they have come to be a part of my game. If I play two or three games without scoring, I won't be happy" says Udom.

Up next for Udom and his teammates is the game against Shooting Stars, and the blond haired lad has promised they would give 200%.

"I want to assure the fans that collectively we will give more than our best this month starting with Sunday's game. Shooting is a good side, and so are we, but we'll work hard to come out tops at the end of the day."

Shooting Stars vs VFC kicks off by 16:00 GMT at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode - Ogun State, and would be broadcast only on VFC TV via the Vandrezzer FC mobile application.
