VANDREZZER FC 0-0 J’ATETE

TEAM NEWS

Coach Henry Makinwa made two changes to the Starting XI, with Anas Hassan making his first start since returning from national assignment in place of Kabiru Popoola and Abraham Opara started in defense in place of Owolabi Ibrahim.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions made a positive start, troubling J’Atete’s goalkeeper inside ten minutes when Uwem Charles was found by Isaac Saviour on the edge of the box only for the striker to shoot directly at Joke Efevwerha.

Olalekan Abdulsalam thought he had given VFC the lead in the 35th minute from Oloye Felix’s corner, only to be denied by Onos’ clearance off the line to keep the scores level.

Obinna Akutchie had little to do in the first 45 minutes but was called to action from a long range shot from the visitor’s counter attack, after Fawaz Otun was caught in midfield.

The visitors sat very deep, denying VFC space and time in the second. But Anas did find space on the edge of the box with a great cross to the overlapping Oloye who missed a glorious chance to break the deadlock.

The visitors frustrated the Lions, falling on the turf at every tackle as the clock moved towards the final whistle.

WHAT NEXT

The Lions will begin the defense of the Lagos FA Cup final on Sunday, June 11, 2022 against Golden Day Academy at the Legacy Football Pitch, Lagos, before returning to league action with a trip to Enugu to face 5th-placed Adoration FC  on Saturday, June 18, 2022.
