Vandrezzer FC returned to winning ways in the Nigeria National League (NNL) with a 2 – 0 victory over Campos FC, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, on Friday.

Goals from Samuel Edoho and Saviour Isaac were enough for the Lions to secure their third win of the season, and push further up the Group B1 log.

It was a dream start for the Lions, scoring in the opening five minutes, but it came with a heavy price, losing winger Gideon Monday in the process.

Vandrezzer FC started the game strongly when Saviour found Gideon inside the penalty box with, the winger was the quickest to the ball but was caught by the high boot of the Campos FC player which forced him out of the game after just two minutes.

The referee correctly awarded the penalty and captain Samuel Edoho sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, finding the bottom left corner of the net for his 4th goal of the season in the 5th minute of the game.

VFC had another chance in the 16th minute when Uwem Charles received a short corner from Saviour and drove inside the box, but the shot went wide.

Olalekan Abdulsalam twice came close in quick succession. First from a cutback pass from Elisha Jonah but his shot was tame and well saved by the goalkeeper in the 28th minute, before Uwem sent the ball across the face of the goal to connect Lekan, but the attacker missed the target.

Lekan had another, this time, a surging run into the box from the left to blast his shot onto the side net, as the Lions went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, substitute Etiti Solomon who came on for Elisha, had a chance to open his account for the Lions on the hour mark when Uwem released him with a through ball on the left, the diminutive winger dribbled past his marker to unleash a fierce strike which could not hit target.

And then in the 82nd minute, midfielder Saviour Isaac produced another magic when a long clearance from a Campos FC corner kick was well guided by Fawaz Otun into the path of Isaac, our No 10 still had a lot to do with the keeper off his line and rushing towards the ball, but the midfield maestro majestically tipped the ball over the goalkeeper to extend our lead, and also score his 4th goal of the season.

Centre-back Opara Abraham attempted an overhead kick in the closing stages of the game before Saviour again nearly got his second of the day with a lovely freekick from the left which was pushed behind for a corner kick by the goalkeeper.

“It was a great game for us and we knew we had to put in our all to get the three points. The fans were amazing and we’re glad we could make them happy” - full back Samuel Edoho, voted Man of the Match.

“A top performance from the boys and great to seal it with a win. All focus on the next game” - Henry Makinwa, VFC head coach.

The Lions will travel East to face Giant Brillars on Saturday April 16, 2022, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, in the last game of the first stanza of the ongoing season.
