VANDREZZER FC ENDS THE YEAR WITH A BANG - EMERGE AFRICA’S 16TH MOST FOLLOWED CLUB

Champions of Lagos, Vandrezzer Football Club, have spectacularly emerged the 16th most digitally followed football club in Africa, according to the recently released ranking by the African Football Digital Benchmark(AFDB) published by Digital Sports Africa and RESULT Sports, Germany.

The feat comes barely two weeks after the Lions’ Lagos FA Cup final victory, clinching the club’s first silverware.

According to the African Football Digital Benchmark (AFDB) which periodically rates the digital success of the continent’s football clubs, VFC moved thirteen places higher than the last ratings released in June 2021, when the Lions were placed 29th overall in Africa and 1st in Nigeria, with a then estimated following of about 426,000.

While maintaining the position as Nigeria’s most supported team, VFC now move into Africa’s Top 20 with a total of 1,813,703 followers across all platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

This climb up the rankings sees the two year old football club also emerge the most followed team in West Africa, overtaking the likes of Asante Kotoko (22nd), Accra Hearts of Oak (24); who are the only other two West African sides in the top 25.

VFC now also ranks above football powerhouses like Al Hilal (23rd), TP Mazembe (21st), and Etoile du Sahel (18th), among others.

The Lagos champions closely follow Egyptian giants Al Masry (15th), Esperance de Tunis (14th), Club Africain (11th) and Mamelodi Sundowns (10th).

Record CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly of Egypt remain unshaken at top spot of the rankings with an estimated digital community of 37 million, while fellow Egyptians Zamalek; Moroccan power-house Raja Casablanca; South African bigwigs Kaizer Chiefs and Tanzanian champions Simba SC, make up the top five most followed African football clubs.

VFC Quote: "We want to thank our fans for the love and support we have enjoyed from them and the growth has been phenomenal" said Fatai Olayinka.

"What we appreciate even more is the spread of our fan base from all over the country and across Africa with more fans from Europe, Asia and North America."

VFC first broke into the Football Digital Benchmark ranking in August 2020, about a month to our first anniversary, when a followership base of about 281,000 followers landed us in 37th place. Sixteen months later, we have moved twenty one places up the ladder to 16th place.

Vandrezzer FC by this extraordinary feat has again put Nigerian football on the African and indeed global digital map.

As usual, we have our esteemed supporters and sponsors to thank for this latest landmark, and urge you to keep aligning with us as we continue building a brand that Nigeria and Africa would be proud of.
