VANDREZZER FC PIPPED BY IBOM YOUTHS IN IKOT EKPENE

The Lions suffered a 1-0 defeat against Ibom Youth FC on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, bringing to an end an unbeaten run that spanned seven games.

A goal just before halftime from Nsikak Moses was enough to hand the home side all three points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Vandrezzer FC started the game with purpose and intent, pushing the home side backward in the first 10 minutes. Isaac Saviour nearly put the Lions in front with chances in quick succession, but could not convert.

Later, Ibom Youth's Nsikak Moses drove past Oloye Felix to put in a dangerous low cross into the box, the ball evaded goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie but Owolabi Ibrahim was there to make the clearance.

Saviour also combined well with Bassey Odiong on the edge of the area to set up Gideon whose volley went wide of the target just around the half-hour mark.

Bassey had a chance from Oloye's corner but nodded wide. VFC had a shout for a penalty kick after Gideon was fouled outside the box and Lekan in that run of play was brought down inside the box, but the referee waved play to continue.

The home side took the lead in almost the last minute of the first half. The goal came from a cross from wing back Victor Ifiok into the box which VFC did well to clear the ball which fell for the opponent just outside the box for Nsikak to find the bottom right corner.

VFC nearly responded at the beginning of the second half when Gideon dribbled past two markers to have a clear sight of goal, but his shot was deflected out for a corner kick.

Kabiru had a shot on the edge of the box from a rebound which went wide, before Gideon again had another chance just as the game was winding down, but was tackled out for a corner kick.

The referee blew the whistle shortly after the two additional minuses of the half, to hand Ibom Youths their first victory of the season’s second stanza.
