Vandrezzer FC return to FA Cup competition this month, five months after winning a maiden trophy in a debut appearance at the prestigious competition.

The competition which kicked off on Wednesday, May 24, 2022 with preliminaries, will see the defending champions Vandrezzer FC and other professional clubs begin their own campaign in the round of 32 due to seeding.

According to the recently released fixtures by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) indicates that VFC will engage the winner between Glorious Day FC vs Cats FC on Sunday 12th of June, 2022 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, by 08:00 GMT.

A stunner by Olalekan Abdulsalam by 78:17 minutes against Box to Box FC capped a fine debut tournament appearance for the Lions Of Naija who claimed their first ever silverware on December 21, 2022, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. And the striker said on Monday that he and his teammates are looking forward to another round of cup action.

“It will be a great feeling to return to defend our title. I know it will be tough, every team will want to play the defending champions, but we are ready to fight to finish. By God’s grace, another title awaits us.”

The Lagos FA cup is the largest and most prestigious state FA Cup competition in Nigeria. A total of 127 men’s and 10 women’s football teams are competing in this year’s edition, with the winners progressing to represent Lagos State at the Aiteo Cup.

VFC won the last edition of the Lagos FA Cup, but could not represent the state in the National Aiteo Competition, as previous Smart City were already picked by the Lagos State Football Association to compensate for their failure to compete on the national stage in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Champions of the Aiteo Cup automatically qualify for the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup as one of the four Nigerian club representatives on the continental stage.
