OUR JOURNEY
VFC remain the only team yet to concede in the tournament, scoring three times in three matches en route to the semi final.
The journey started with a 1-0 victory against Jo Sportyne FC before a 6-5 penalty shootout win against 36 Lions in the round of 16. We comfortably defeated Messiah FC 2-0 in the quarter finals to book a place in the last four of the competition.
TEAM NEWS
VFC have a clean bill of health going into this fixture, with captain Samuel Edoho and talisman Saviour Isaac in good form to lead the team this afternoon.
Head Coach, Tony Bolus returns to the dugout after missing the quarter-finals victory and will give out instructions from the sideline alongside Coach Yemi.
LAST MEETING
Wednesday’s match will be the second ever meeting between VFC and Smart City FC, the first being a 2-0 friendly match victory on April 27, 2021.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
1. *Saviour Isaac* - The attacking midfielder has been in scintillating form since joining VFC last season, and will be a threat to the opposition going forward. Flanked by Saheed Obisesan and Lekan Abdulsalam, the midfield ace has all the tools to trouble the opposition. He scored our first ever goal of the competition against Jo Sportyne FC.
2. *Somtochukwu Abraham* - Started his first game of the tournament against Messiah FC in the quarter final, and scored the game’s first goal and later gave a wonderful assist to Lekan Abdulsalam for the second goal in the 2-0 victory. Somto will also seek to have another goal against Smart City, scoring the second goal in the 2-0 friendly win over them in April.
3. *Lekan Abdulsalam* - He may be a new addition to the squad but Lekan has already settled in and looked at home in VFC colours. His goal in the quarter-finals ensured there was no doubt about the result and will certainly look to secure a spot for himself when the season starts.
