VFC ROAR INTO LAGOS FA CUP SEMI-FINALS

Abraham Somtochukwu and Olalekan Abdulsalam scored in both sides of the half to beat Messiah FC 2-0 at the Strong Tower Academy Pitch, Ikorodu on Saturday afternoon, to send us through to the semi-finals of the ongoing Lagos FA Cup.

Coach Yemi Daniel who is still standing in for Tony Bolus (out with flu), made one change to the side that played 36 Lion FC on Wednesday, with goal scorer, Somtochukwu replacing Chukwuebuka Ogbonna in the starting XI.

VFC came out of the blocks with purpose and intent, dominating the opening exchanges to show their superiority and it paid off with a goal in the 16th minute.

A quick one-two between Kingsley Akpan and Somto on the edge of the box released the forward who made a quick run into the box of the opposition and smartly found the far right corner of the post to put us in front.

We went into halftime leading and came out in the second half pushing for the second goal. It was Somto again that found a quick opening to lay a defense splitting pass to new boy Olalekan, who was quick enough to put the ball in the back of the net, just after the restart.

At the back, defenders Bassey Odiong, Ibrahim Owolobi and Kabiru Popoola were resolute all through, ensuring goalkeeper Obinna Akuchie was hardly troubled, while Saviour Isaac and Saheed Obisesan dominated the midfield throughout the entire game.

The Messiah FC defense did well to intercept runs from wingers Gideon Monday and captain Samuel Edoho who was everywhere on the pitch, especially in the 2nd half, where he helped steady the ship after the dismissal of Coach Yemi by the centre referee.

Anas Jonah and Elisha Jonah come on for Saheed Obisesan and Olalekan respectively later in the 2nd half to add more bite to the attack, but VFC were repeatedly denied by the Messiah defense.

The win means Vandrezzer FC are yet to concede a goal in three matches in our run to the semi final.

WHAT NEXT?

We became the first team to qualify to the last four and will face either Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, MFM FC or cup holders Smart City FC who play Sunday.
