Players and officials of Vandrezzer FC gave a rousing welcome to midfielder Anas Hassan who had been on duty with the national U-20 football team since April 18, 2022.

The dynamic VFC no 4 played an integral part of the Flying Eagles triumph in Niamey, Niger Republic, where Nigeria beat Benin Republic to win the 2022 WAFU B tournament featuring seven West African teams; in addition to qualifying for next year’s U-20 Afcon in Egypt.

Captain Godwin Ekpo who spoke on behalf of the squad at the team’s training based in Uyo said:

“We are delighted to have Anas back with the team, and more excited that he came back with a winners medal from the WAFU B”

“Everyone missed him a lot, but we know he was representing us and Nigeria well in Niamey. We are very proud of him.”

Coach Henry Makinwa was full of praise for Anas and predicted that the youngster will reach higher heights due do his talent and humility.

“I felt very proud when you got the call up and even prouder when Nigeria eventually won the trophy. I knew you would give a good account of yourself based on where you were coming from - a sound club with great values and tutelage. You, like every other player here, will go places as long as you stay humble, follow instructions, and keep wanting to learn.”

On his part, Anas who’s known for few words, gave gratitude to God for his recent feat with the Flying Eagles, and to the team for being a great support base for him while he was on national assignment.

“I am grateful to God for helping me so far in my career. I thank the management and the whole team for the love; I was seeing the updates and comments all over the media, some of my Flying Eagles teammates said I was lucky to be in Vandrezzer and I agree. I love this family, and I’m happy to be back”.

The Flying Eagles were decamped last weekend following their return from Niamey, and are expected to regroup at a future date yet to be announced.

The Lions are currently in Uyo tuning up for this weekend’s encounter against Ibom Youths.
